Tristan und Isolde

This broadcast captures legendary soprano Birgit Nilsson at the height of her artistry in what was arguably her greatest role—Wagner’s Isolde. She is joined by Jess Thomas, who gives a heroic performance as Tristan. The stellar cast also includes Giorgio Tozzi as King Marke, the man Isolde is forced to marry, Irene Dalis as Brangäne, Isolde’s confidante, and William Dooley as Kurwenal, Tristan’s faithful friend. The great Erich Leinsdorf conducts.
