R. Strauss
Elektra
When daring Swedish soprano Nina Stemme first took on the title role of Elektra at the Met in 2016, audiences were on the edges of their seats. During the 2021–22 season, she reprised her searing portrayal alongside exhilarating soprano Lise Davidsen as her anguished sister, Chrysothemis. In this Saturday Matinee Radio Broadcast Maestro Donald Runnicles conducts Strauss’s powerful one-act drama, which also featured mezzo-soprano Michaela Schuster as the pair’s tormented mother, Klytämnestra, bass-baritone Greer Grimsley as their noble brother, Orest, and tenor Stefan Vinke as Klytämnestra’s lover, Aegisth.
