Rossini
Il Barbiere di Siviglia
One of the most popular comedies in the operatic repertoire, Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia features one thrilling vocal display after another. In this performance from the 2011–12 season, baritone Peter Mattei—whose roles at the Met have spanned the works of Mozart, Rossini, Puccini, Wagner, Tchaikovsky, and Janáček—is Figaro, the titular Barber of Seville. As the feisty Rosina, mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard sings her first Rossini role at the Met, opposite the stunning bel canto tenor Javier Camarena in his company debut as Count Almaviva. Maurizio Benini conducts a lively performance, which also features bass-baritone Maurizio Muraro and bass Paata Burchuladze as the scheming Dr. Bartolo and Don Basilio.
