The third installment of Wagner’s monumental Der Ring des Nibelungen, Siegfried returned to the Met stage during the 2018–19 season as part of the company’s first full Ring cycles since 2013. Making his Met debut, tenor Stefan Vinke is the fearless title hero, who embarks on a death-defying quest that culminates in his awakening of the now-mortal Brünnhilde—sung in this performance by soprano Christine Goerke. Along the way, he must protect himself from the scheming Mime, sung by tenor Gerhard Siegel, and defeat the dragon Fafner, sung by bass Dmitry Belosselskiy. On the podium, Philippe Jordan conducts an energetic performance, which also features mezzo-soprano Karen Cargill as Erda, baritone Michael Volle as the Wanderer, bass-baritone Tomasz Konieczny as Alberich.
