Mozart
Don Giovanni
More than two centuries after it premiere, Mozart’s black comedy of earthly misdeeds and otherworldly retribution still stands as one of the defining masterpieces of the operatic repertoire. In this radio broadcast from 2015, Maestro Alan Gilbert leads a buoyant performance, headlined by baritone Peter Mattei as the lascivious title character. Bass-baritone Luca Pisaroni is the Don’s long-suffering sidekick, Leporello, with sopranos Elza van den Heever and Emma Bell and mezzo-soprano Kate Lindsey as the targets of Giovanni’s failed seductions. Tenor Dmitry Korchak as Don Ottavio, bass-baritone Adam Plachetka as Masetto, and bass-baritone James Morris as the Commendatore round out the winning ensemble.
