Public Tours
Go behind the scenes for an exclusive look at what it takes to make operatic magic at the Met!
Tours offer a fascinating backstage look at one of the world’s premiere performing arts organizations, including visits to the scenic and carpentry shops, rehearsal rooms, dressing rooms, and stage area.* Tours begin and end in the Met lobby and are held during the Met performance season. The schedule varies and is dependent on the Met's rehearsal schedule. The tour lasts approximately 75 minutes long. Please visit our online calendar to check dates & times of upcoming tours. Tickets are non-refundable and non-exchangeable.
Tours are $35 for the General Public and $25 for Members, Students, & Groups of 10 or more. Reservations can be made online, by speaking to the call center at 212.362.6000, or by visiting the box office. The Backstage Tour includes considerable standing, walking, stairs, and elevators. We are able to accommodate individuals using wheelchairs or having other mobility challenges if a request is made at least 1 week before the desired tour date. Please call 212.870.7623 with questions and to reserve.
*Please note that as this is a working opera house, not all areas may be available on every tour. Also, please be aware that children under the age of 8 are not permitted on tours.
Members of the Patron Program who support the Met at the Contributing Patron level or above are invited to take a VIP tour of the opera house on selected dates throughout the opera season.
