Support HD Live in Schools

Since its inception, the Met’s HD Live in Schools program has enriched the lives of nearly 175,000 students and teachers in New York City and across the United States.

With the success of the award-winning Live in HD series—featuring live performance presentations in movie theaters worldwide—the Met recognized a unique opportunity to bring world-class opera to students with limited opportunities for cultural engagement. In partnership with the New York City Department of Education, the HD Live in Schools program was introduced in New York City public schools in 2007, expanding nationally in 2008. The program currently serves nearly 70 school districts across the U.S. and Puerto Rico. New school districts partnering with the Met from this season include: School District 11, CO; Hawai’i Department of Education, HI; North Kansas City Schools, MO; The Olga Iglesias Project, PR; and Alief Independent School District, TX. By providing direct access to Met performances, as well as extensive teacher training, curriculum enrichment materials, and rare opportunities to interact with opera’s greatest stars, the Met is committed to introducing opera to students across the country, seeking to ignite a lifelong passion for the classical arts.

In response to the ongoing challenges to both education and the performing arts posed by Covid-19, in 2020 Met Education has launched a new, virtual edition of the HD Live in Schools program. All students and educators in participating districts now receive free access to the Met Opera on Demand catalog, along with in-depth curricular materials and classroom-ready activities designed to be used in live, virtual, and hybrid-learning settings.

In addition, Met Education now offers Virtual Opera Book Club; Virtual Honors Choir; Access Opera: Guild Open Rehearsals for Students; and Family Open Houses, to help bring the education and entertainment of the performing arts to young audiences worldwide.
