New York, NY (April 23, 2024)—The Metropolitan Opera’s 2024 Summer Recital Series, now in its 15th season, begins June 18, with five free outdoor recitals throughout New York City. Presented in collaboration with Capital One City Parks Foundation SummerStage, the first concert will take place at SummerStage in Central Park (Manhattan) on Tuesday, June 18, at 8PM, followed by Brooklyn Bridge Park (Brooklyn) on Thursday, June 20, at 7PM. Performing on those evenings are soprano Leah Hawkins, tenor Mario Chang, and bass-baritone Michael Sumuel, all who starred in notable Met premieres earlier this season: Hawkins and Sumuel sang the roles of Louise/Betty and Reginald, respectively, in Anthony Davis’s X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X, and Chang sang the role of Arcadio in Daniel Catán’s Florencia en el Amazonas. Met assistant conductor Dimitri Dover will accompany at the piano.

Rising stars of the Met’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program—soprano Brittany Olivia Logan, mezzo-soprano Hannah Jones, and tenor Matthew Cairns—headline three additional recitals on Monday, June 24, at 7PM in Jackie Robinson Park (Manhattan); Wednesday, June 26, at 7PM at the Williamsbridge Oval (Bronx); and Friday, June 28, at 7PM in Socrates Sculpture Park (Queens). Logan, in her third year with the program, made her Met debut as Clotilde in Bellini’s Norma, and sang the roles of Priestess in Verdi’s Aida during the 2022–23 season and Anna in Verdi’s Nabucco earlier this season. Cairns, in his second year of the program, was also a 2022 Grand Finals Winner of the Met’s Laffont Competition and made his company debut last season as the Messenger in Aida. Jones, who joins the program this fall, is also a member of the Denyce Graves Foundation’s inaugural Shared Voices program. Deborah Robertson, in her first year of the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program, will join the singers at the piano.

The Met’s Summer Recital Series will feature famous opera arias and duets, as well as other classical favorites.

The Met’s Summer Recital Series is funded by the Elizabeth B. McGraw Foundation, in honor of Mrs. McGraw and her son, John. Additional support has also been provided, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, in partnership with the City Council, and in collaboration with the Department of Parks and Recreation.

No tickets are required. There are no rain dates for any of the park recitals. For more information, please visit cityparksfoundation.org/summerstage.
