Porgy and Bess: An Evening in Three Acts

A collaboration between the Met and New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, this multimedia performance event traces Porgy and Bess’s evolution from novel to play to opera. The evening features historical artifacts from the NYPL’s collections, introduced and interpreted by noted scholars and star singers from the Met production.

Exclusively for Met Patrons, General Manager Peter Gelb leads a panel discussion about the new production, featuring conductor David Robertson, director James Robinson, choreographer Camille A. Brown, and stars Eric Owens and Angel Blue.

Porgy and Bess: Special Pre-Season Event

Special Screening: Porgy and Bess

Otto Preminger’s famous but seldom-seen 1959 film adaptation of Gershwin’s opera will be presented by Film at Lincoln Center, preceded by a panel discussion with Preminger biographer Foster Hirsch, scholar Maurice Wheeler, and tenor Frederick Ballentine, who sings Sportin’ Life in the new Met production.
