New York, NY (September 28, 2022)—Puccini’s thrilling masterpiece Tosca returns to the Metropolitan Opera for 15 performances, October 4, 2022–April 15, 2023. Sopranos Aleksandra Kurzak, Liudmyla Monastyrska, and Angela Gheorghiu share the title role of opera’s quintessential diva, opposite tenors Michael Fabiano—who also makes his Met role debut—Roberto Alagna, and Yusif Eyvazov as Tosca’s lover, the painter-revolutionary Cavaradossi. Baritone John Lundgren—who also makes his Met debut—and Željko Lučić star as the sadistic police chief Scarpia, and bass-baritone Patrick Carfizzi reprises the role of the Sacristan. Maestro Carlo Rizzi and Domingo Hindoyan share the podium, leading the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and Chorus in a revival of David McVicar’s lavish production, which recreates three famed Roman settings: the Church of Sant’Andrea della Valle, the Palazzo Farnese, and the Castel Sant’Angelo. The production includes another debut: the Met’s refurbished organ, which received a complete makeover this summer. The instrument is one of the few pipe organs in any opera house and figures prominently in the Te Deum scene in Act I.
