Cuban baritone Eleomar Cuello was a 2023 National Finalist in the Met's Laffont Competition, now in his second year in the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program. During the 2024–25 season, he will appear as the Bullfighter in Ainadamar and Fiorello in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Met, and Schaunard in La Bohème at Opera Maine. Last season, he covered the roles of Périchaud in La Rondine and Le Dancaïre in Carmen at the Met, sang the title role of Don Giovanni at Vero Beach Opera and Silvio in Pagliacci at Florida Grand Opera. Recent operatic engagements include Don Giovanni at Staatsoper Stuttgart, Dulcamara in L'Elisir d'Amore at Vero Beach Opera, Grégorio in Roméo et Juliette at Opera Naples, and Schaunard at the Municipal Theater of Santiago, and covered the roles of Belcore in L’Elisir d’Amore and Marquese d’Obigny in La Traviata at Santa Fe Opera. He won first prize at the 2023 Vero Beach Opera Rising Stars Competition and has received similar acclaim at other international competitions including first prize at the 2022 Gerda Lissner Competition, second prize in Florida Grand Opera's 2022 Young Patronesses of the Opera Competition, the Voce di Meche Encouragement Award from the 2022 Premiere Opera Foundation International Vocal Competition, and the Emerging Artist Award from the 2022 Opera Index Competition. He is an alumnus of the Merola Opera Program at San Francisco Opera and the Santa Fe Opera Apprentice Artist Program and holds a degree in voice from the Academy of the National Lyric Theater of Cuba.
