Priestess in Aida

Amanda Batista is a Puerto Rican Cuban American soprano from Manchester, New Jersey now in her third year in the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program. During the upcoming 2024–25 Met season, she will reprise her debut role of the Priestess in the company’s new production of Aida and cover Berta in Il Barbiere di Siviglia. Additionally, this season she will appear as Mimì in La Bohème with Atlanta Opera, a role she debuted during the summer of 2024 with Wolf Trap Opera. Past engagements at the Met include First Lady in The Magic Flute, Bianca in La Rondine, and covering the role of Clotilde in Norma. Recent operatic engagements include Elettra in Idomeneo at Aspen Opera Theater, the title role of Catán’s Florencia en el Amazonas and Salud in de Falla's La Vida Breve as part of the Merola Opera Program’s Schwabacher Summer Concert Series, and the Countess in Le Nozze di Figaro at the Chautauqua Institution. In addition to her extensive stage experience, she has received high marks at many prestigious vocal competitions, including first place in the 2023 Opera at Florham International Vocal Competition, fifth prize in the 2023 Giulio Gari International Vocal Competition, first place in the 2023 Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Vocal Competition, and second place in Houston Grand Opera's 2022 Eleanor McCollum Competition. In 2023, she was named a semifinalist in the Paris Opera Competition. She is an alumna of the Chautauqua Institution, Aspen Opera Theater and VocalARTS Program, the Merola Opera Program at San Francisco Opera, and the Académie du Festival d'Aix-en-Provence. She holds degrees in voice from the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University and the Juilliard School, where she was a proud recipient of the Kovner Fellowship.
