Suzy in La Rondine

Elmina Hasan is a mezzo-soprano from Baku, Azerbaijan currently in her first year in the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program. During the Met’s 2023–24 season, she will make her company debut as Suzy in La Rondine and cover Fenena in Nabucco. Recent engagements include Marchesa Melibea in Il Viaggio in Reims at Deutsche Oper Berlin under the baton of Michele Spotti and Dorabella in Così fan Tutte at the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater. She performed various choral and orchestral works at the Azerbaijan State Academic Philharmonic Hall with the Azerbaijan State Chamber Orchestra and Azerbaijan State Choir before making her professional operatic debut in 2019 as Polina in The Queen of Spades. Last season, she made her role and company debut as Fenena at the Georgian National Opera Theater. In 2022, she saw success at numerous international vocal competitions including first place in the first annual Black Sea International Opera Competition, grand prix winner of the Bulbul International Vocal Competition, and second prize in the Premiere Opera Foundation’s International Vocal Competition. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the Hajibeyov Baku Academy of Music in Azerbaijan and a master’s degree from the Tbilisi State Conservatoire.
