The Brothers Grimm’s well-known fairy tale takes on even more color in this musical retelling by Engelbert Humperdinck. In fact this operatic version, with the Sandman, the Dew Fairy, and guardian angels, has become a beloved classic in its own right. Jennifer Larmore is the impulsive Hansel and Dawn Upshaw his sweet and resourceful sister, Gretel. Judith Forest is the evil Witch who tries to have her way with the lost children, but who ends up getting cooked in her own oven.
