Donizetti
L'Elisir d'Amore
Donizetti’s touching comedy is about poor, gentle Nemorino (Alfredo Kraus) who loves the beautiful wealthy Adina (Roberta Peters). But, to make everything work out he needs a love potion (fake) provided by the slippery Dr. Dulcamara (the hilarious Fernando Corena). Mix in the dashing, strutting Sergeant Belcore (Mario Sereni), and some of Donizetti’s most beloved melodies, and it’s easy to understand why “The Elixir of Love” has always been an audience favorite. And with Kraus, at his stylish best, coupled with an appealing Roberta Peters, this is one to cherish.
