Verdi
Aida
Italian tenor Franco Corelli had it all: movie-star looks, ringing high notes he could hold for what seemed like forever, and a charismatic stage presence. With Corelli as Radames, the captain of the Egyptian army, it was more than believable that the daughter of the Egyptian king, Amneris (Irene Dalis), would want him – and that she would do everything in her power to keep him from her slave, Aida (Gabriella Tucci). This is Corelli’s only broadcast Aida from the Met and required listening for fans of the art of the tenor.
