Handel
Rodelinda
One of today’s most enthralling and versatile artists, South African soprano Elza van den Heever has thrilled Met audiences with her performances in the works of Mozart, Donizetti, Strauss, and Berg. During the 2021–22 season, she added Handel to the list, starring as the noble heroine of the composer’s Baroque drama Rodelinda. In this Saturday Matinee Radio Broadcast, van den Heever shares the stage with an ensemble of remarkable vocalists, including countertenor Iestyn Davies as Rodelinda’s royal husband, Bertarido, and tenor Paul Appleby as his would-be usurper, Garibaldo. Maestro Harry Bicket, a leading Handel interpreter, conducts this stunning performance, which also features mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke, countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo, and bass-baritone Adam Plachetka.
