Puccini
La Bohème
The most performed opera in Met history, Puccini’s timeless tragedy La Bohème returned to the stage during the 2021–22 season, showcasing a cast of young stars as the bohemian friends and lovers of 1830s Paris. In this touching Saturday Matinee Radio Broadcast, tenor Charles Castronovo is the ardent poet Rodolfo, starring opposite Italian soprano Maria Agresta as his beloved, the consumptive seamstress Mimì. Alongside this winning pair, the cast also features soprano Gabriella Reyes and baritone Lucas Meachem as the on-again-off-again couple Musetta and Marcello, baritone Alexander Birch Elliot as Schaunard, and bass Peter Kellner as Colline. Maestro Carlo Rizzi is on the podium to conduct Franco Zeffirelli’s picturesque staging, a perennial audience favorite for more than 40 years.
