Mozart
Le Nozze di Figaro
Still delighting audiences centuries after its 1786 premiere, Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro remains one of the greatest musical comedies ever to take the stage. At the Met, generations of exceptional Mozarteans have starred as the young newlyweds Figaro and Susanna; their aristocratic employers, the Count and Countess Almaviva; and the pageboy on the cusp of manhood, Cherubino. This live radio broadcast, recorded in March 1977, is no exception. Maestro Steuart Bedford leads a delightful cast that includes sopranos Heather Harper and Judith Blegen, mezzo-soprano Maria Ewing, baritone Lenus Carlson, and, just a few years after his company debut, bass-baritone James Morris.
