Mozart
The Magic Flute
A favorite of audiences of all ages ever since it premiered in 2006, the Met’s abridged English-language version of The Magic Flute returned during the holiday season in 2019. In this delightful radio broadcast, tenor David Portillo is Tamino, a noble prince on a magical, musical quest to rescue the fair Pamina, sung by soprano Ying Fang. Lothar Koenigs conducts Mozart’s enchanting operatic fable, which also stars baritone Joshua Hopkins as the lovable bird catcher Papageno, soprano Kathryn Lewek as the fearsome Queen of the Night, and bass Soloman Howard as the benevolent Sarastro.
