Wagner
Götterdämmerung
The culmination of Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen, Götterdämmerung is also a complete and monumental theatrical journey of its own. In this 1975 radio broadcast, legendary Wagnerian soprano Birgit Nilsson thrills as Brünnhilde—starring in her final full Ring cycle at the Met. Performing alongside the great dramatic diva, the cast also features tenor Jess Thomas as Siegfried, bass Bengt Rundgren as Hagen, mezzo-soprano Anna Reynolds as Waltraute, bass Marius Rintzler as Alberich, and bass-baritone William Dooley and soprano Nell Rankin as Gunther and Gutrune. Swedish maestro Sixten Ehrling takes the podium to lead one of opera’s most exhilarating epics.
