R. Strauss
Der Rosenkavalier
Richard Strauss’s most popular opera, Der Rosenkavalier features not only sublime vocal writing but also colorful orchestrations and brilliant instrumental passages. The Met was especially fortunate to have esteemed maestro Sir Simon Rattle on the podium when this bittersweet comedy retook the stage during the 2019–20 season. In this radio broadcast, Rattle leads a rousing performance, which stars his wife, mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožená, as Octavian, the titular “knight of the rose.” The delightful cast also features soprano Camilla Nylund in her Met-debut season as the Marschallin, rising soprano Golda Schultz as Sophie, and bass Günther Groissböck reprising his devilish portrayal of Baron Ochs.
