• What is the Met Opera on Demand Apple TV app?

  The Apple TV app is a customized Met Opera on Demand experience, designed specifically for and accessible only on Apple TV (4th generation) devices.

• How much does the app cost?

  The app itself is free to download from the App Store. However, a Met Opera on Demand subscription is required to access the app and its content.

• Is there a free trial for the app?

  Anyone can sign up for a free 7-day trial of Met Opera on Demand through the app or on the Met website, and enjoy unlimited access on all available platforms and devices.

• What are the technical requirements for the app?

  The app is accessible only on 4th gen Apple TV devices. At a minimum, tvOS 9.0 is required - although the latest version of tvOS is recommended. A high-speed (broadband) internet connection is required, and download speed of at least 5 mbps is recommended.

• How do I modify the appearance of the subtitles on my Apple TV?

  The Met Opera on Demand app will display subtitles as specified by your Apple TV's device setttings found under Setting > General > Accessibility > Subtitles and Captioning > Style. The Met recommends creating a new custom style under Edit Styles > New Style as follows: Font: Avenir Size: Medium (some users may prefer another size) Color: White Background Opacity: 0% Text Opacity: Opaque Text Edge Style: Drop Shadow

• How do I change the subtitle language?

  When a video is playing (note: subtitles are only available for videos, and multi-language subtitles are only available for select HD videos) or you have Paused the player, swipe down on the Apple TV remote's touch pad to open the menu offering Info, Subtitles, and Track List. Open the Subtitles menu, and select any of the available languages. Once selected, the language will display a check mark to the left of its listing in the Subtitles menu - and your change will take effect immediately in the player. Swipe up on the remote touch pad to close this menu.

• How does the “Continue Watching and Listening” feature work?

  The Met Opera on Demand Apple TV app allows you to stop playback at any point during an opera, and return to that same point and resume playback later. On the app’s new “New Releases” (home) screen, when users are logged in they will see the “Continue Watching and Listening” carousel just below the large rotating graphic. Here users will see up to 25 of their most recently viewed operas, with a small pink indicator at the bottom of the photo showing their progress in watching that opera. Select your opera to return to the performance screen and select Resume to continue where you left off. An opera will automatically be removed from your “Continue Watching” lineup after you have reached the end. And if you have more than 25 operas in your list, the next opera you watch will replace the oldest one when the app refreshes. This feature also works if you start watching on your Apple TV and wish to continue watching it on any other Met Opera on Demand app or platform (or vice versa). Just login to Met Opera on Demand with the same username and password, and when you begin playback of an opera that was already in progress on your Apple TV the other apps/platforms will resume right where you left off.

• How do I subscribe to the app?

  Choose "Subscribe" from anywhere in the app to start your free trial or subscription through your iTunes account. You must register to create a new Met Opera account or login to your existing Met account, and then confirm your order through your iTunes account.

• Can I rent individual operas to watch with the app?

  No, at this time access to the app is limited to active Met Opera on Demand subscribers. While you can purchase one-time rentals for the Met Opera on Demand website, these purchases cannot be accessed with the Apple TV app.

• Is the app available outside the US?

  Yes, the Met Opera on Demand Apple TV app is currently available in the following 41 countries outside the US: Albania, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, India, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, and United Kingdom.

• Are there any geographic restrictions for the operas in the app?

  There are a small number of specific performances that are available on the Met Opera on Demand website but not through the app (or the Roku channel.) Please refer to our list of Limited Availability titles for more information.
